Utopian Cardinal was the Australian Grand Prix Champion in 2016. He is a magnificent liver chestnut who has stormed his way through all the top competitions in Australia. Cardinal turns up to compete at every major CDI dressage competition on the Australian calendar. Cardinal is the work of my life (Heath Ryan) and for me, selling him is a difficult moment. Cardinal has been on the market for $600,000AUD but clearly we have not managed to make this happen. He will be sold at the auction with a reserve that is much, much less. Cardinal is just 13yo and we would expect him to easily be a top competitor in Grand Prix for another seven or eight years. It is possible he would go beyond that, but certainly seven or eight years. Cardinal is naturally very supple and folds easily through the poll with enormous elasticity through all of his paces. He finds all of the Grand Prix work easy and he has almost foot-perfect transitions from passage to piaffe to passage, which are considered the most difficult transitions in the Grand Prix arena. He will do these transitions without missing a beat in the competition arena as well as schooling at home. Cardinal’s canter pirouettes are magnificent and when schooling flying changes I will often do 51 flying changes every second stride without a mistake and 91 one-time changes without a mistake. That is just Cardinal and I doing our own little thing! A fantastic horse.
